The End Of The Beginning (Part III): A B-Day Celebration And A Big Announcement

On Saturday morning we were ready to leave my beloved keys. Before that, we grabbed a power breakfast at one of the hottest spots in Key Largo: Doc's Diner, runned by an Optometrist who, back in the seventies, visited the keys for a two-month vacation and ended up moving there for good! Who can blame him!

We arrived at Miami on the early afternoon. We were looking forward to the Heat game that evening. Michael was physched about his first NBA game -which turned out to be one of his most special early b-day celebrations. The game was as exciting as it gets, and the local team got the victory in the very last minute. Go figure! THE HEAT IS ON!

After the game, we headed to one of my favorite spots in Miami: Soyka. The restaurant, named after his owner, the man who runs some of the most iconic cafes in the city -such as Van Dyke Cafe or The News, features live jazz on the weekends. It doesn't get much better!

We didn't get home too late that night. Sunday 25 was a pretty intense day. It was not only Michael's birthday, but also the day he returned back to Germany AND the last day we would say good-bye at Miami's airport.

Now, that's where the big announcement comes in: After a bit over than 8 years living in South Florida, I'll be officially moving to Bonn, Germany in a little less than a month (December 21th).

Pause for reaction.

I want to keep writing about this in the next few days. As you can imagine, it was not an overnight decision. I can't wait to share with you the whole range of emotions I went through during the last 18 months.

I am very happy, and as much as I want to enjoy my last days in Miami, I can't wait to open a new chapter with the man that I love, and at a just 2-hour flight away from my family in Spain.

Much more details to come!

Needless to say, I hope to be blogging the hell out of this very special time in my life, and I truly hope I can keep feeling the support and wise advises that you guys have always given me throughout the past months. Thank you so much for that!

Much love!

  3. Wow, it is big news! But Europe is great! I´ve been a lot in Germany, though Bonn is maybe the Stadt that I haven´t been too. My absolute favourite is Munich, where I spent a whole year learning German. I spend every summer in Spain so I can imagine that you will go there a lot, to your family! This is going to be a big transition, I can see that having done transitions myself, but, that´s life. And you will grow immensely from it. Now you can take on Europe! xo Caroline

  4. Ahhhhhh! I'm so happy for you and Michael! I'm sure there are so many emotions all tied up together and pretty tough to untangle sometimes, BUT finding your true love is the greatest gift. And just think...you won't have to keep saying goodbye to him for long periods of time. I'm sure that was very hard.
Soak up all that you love about Miami over this next month, and then enjoy every moment of your new life with your love.
I can't wait to hear more details and keep on supporting you as you step into the next chapter of your life.
    Congrats, my friend!!!

  8. Wow, have fun on this great adventure! I can definitely relate since I moved with my husband to Europe and then Asia. It isn't always easy, but if you are with the guy you love, you work things out in a new place. Who knows, you may be back in Miami some day!
