Airport {Preppy} Style Done Right

Source

There's a reason why `travelling in style' remains a recurrent topic for fashion and lifestyle blogs and publications. It's just tricky to figure out the right outfit formula that works -and the process usually involves a trial-and-error approach.

I got excited when the guys at HomeAway reached out and asked me to share my tips on how to navegate airports in style during the warmest months. Here you guys have my five cents on the matter:  functionality and comfort are non-negotiable. At the same time, I aim to look put together

That being said, I always lean towards comfy looks with a preppy finish, and plan my outfit around the following go-to staples

1. I've always been a fan of cross-body, oversized bags. But when it comes to travel, I cannot imagine myself carrying anything else. The Madewell Transport satchel  combines functionality and style. It has a zip, which I love. When I pack, I use what I call the 'inverted funnel strategy': I think about the most important things we need for the trip (passports, credit cards and other trip-related paper work, money, cell phone...) I keep those in my cross-body. Bonus: It leaves my hands free to deal with other matters.

2. Layering. That's the name of the game. It's not easy to come up with the right mix of layers. I already documented my passion for army jackets. I bought this one at C&A more that two years ago, and it has been on heavy rotation ever since, especially during Spring-Summer trips. I use it as master layer, as it can be thrown on top of t-shirts, blouses, shirts or even a cashmere sweater if needed.

3. Scarf. Pretty much like the cross-body bag and the army jacket, the scarf performs double-duty: not only adds an unapologetic sense of style, but also protects us from aggresive ACs.

4. Comfy shoes are arguably, and for obvious reasons, the most important element of the outfit. Flat ballerinas fit the bill for me (I'm digging the lace-up trend). Loafers or espadrilles can work just as well.

5. A solid carry-on is a great investment. If you manage to squeeze in it all you need for the trip, it saves you time and money on the long run.

And that's a wrap. I would love to hear: Do you also have any go-to staples or tips for travel outfits or airport style?
