Are You A 'Cheap Date'?

The moment I had this idea for a post, I started researching about the origin of this expression. The term 'cheap date' was initially coined based on the alcohol-investment needed for a male to take a lady to bed, meaning that, if the investment doesn't reach certain level, the lady in question would be 'sweetly' labeled as 'cheap date.'

I believe -and PLEASE, correct me if I'm wrong- that the meaning of this term has progressively evolved to describe certain date scenarios where a couple can have the best time, without breaking the bank. That's exactly the angle I want to take on this particular post!

Don't get me wrong...if someone (ahem!) takes me on a helicopter ride over Iguazú Falls or flies me to Paris for a dinner in Maxim's, I think I'll be able to live with that the rest of my life.

But to be honest, I still find 'cheap dates' SO romantic and a great way to bond with your significat other: think of a picnic at the beach by Sunset, cooking together at home -or just ordering in a huge Meat Lovers pizza- a good movie, bike rides, watching an exciting game on TV...

What about you, guys? Are you 'cheap dates' too? Any particular preference when it comes to date scenarios?

AskMen tips dudes with some ideas...

  1. My husband and I had lots of inexpensive dates before we were married. When you're young and don't have much money, that's all you can do! Still, makes for good memories.

  2. I have many a good memories from some of our cheap dates! During cool nights my boyfriend and I love to have a glass of wine and sit in front of the fire pit in the backyard. Can't wait for those nights again :)

  3. I think any time spent with the person you love can be romantic, money doesn't have to come in to it. A walk in a gorgeous location is one of the nicest things you can do xo

  4. I don't think it matters how much money you spend on a date as long as you both are having fun! I've had a good time from "expensive dates" and also equally a good time from "cheap dates" and vice versa!

  5. Thank you for the kind comment on my blog- i think the main reason i feel comfortable pushing my bounderies is because i have no self set (or society set) rules on style. I just sort of wear what i like- sometimes it looks good sometimes it doesnt. Im well aware i will never win a style award but i al always comfortable.
That and i am probably the cheapest date ever! Im a vegetarian so i hate going out for meals/ the majority of people cooking for me, i work long irregular hours so going to fancy places is usually not an option, and I don't like watching films at a cinema becuase they always seem out fo focus- i am much more at home with a dvd or a walk in a forest/ the seaside.

  6. While the elaborate and expensive dates are nice but they require more money that thought and effort.. which is why the cheap date is so much more romantic and special

  10. I love chips dates, we also mistakenly think that romance always requires a five-star production. We picture hours of elaborate and expensive preparations for an event that we will never forget. But sometimes simple is better than complex, and the element of surprise can be the greatest ally, like pick up our favourite food: Chinese take-out, pizza, sushi, whatever, bring it home and slip it into a picnic basket, lay out a blanket on your living room floor, maybe even in front of a crackling fire, and enjoy a romantic meal for two. I'm talking about ROMANCE here, Elsa, and romance is spelled E-F-F-O-R-T. It is fun, but it is also work.

    Big hugs, darling!
