OUT OF SOUTH AFRICA: EAST COAST. SURFERS' MECCA.

Just hours after finding out the sad passing of the country's most remarkable leader, Nelson Mandela -my condolences- I would like to share with you the last set of pictures from our trip, and tribute the beauty and spirit of that amazing country, South Africa.

On Saturday 16th, we left Stellenbosch in the morning and started driving toward the East Coast, bordering the Indian Ocean until reaching our next destination: Plettenberg Bay, a lovely and quiet beach town, notorious for having great shops and restaurants. We stayed at Albergo, a cozy hostel for backpackers, owned by a lovely couple from Netherlands, Leslie and Mirjam. They are friends with Michael for more than ten years. The beauty of Albergo is that it offers real apartments as accommodation in the 'backpackers price range.' Seeing is believing.

Later that night, we had dinner at Enrico, our second favorite restaurant finding after Husser Grill.

Again, I ate my weight in avocado salads and mussels...

We didn't have luck with the weather on Sunday, as it was mostly cloudy and rainy. We drove to Knysna, also by the water, did some shopping at the wonderful Craft Center, and had dinner again at Enrico's.

Monday turned into the perfect beach day. We drove to Nature's Valley, a wonderful beach surrounded by the richest vegetation and famous for bird watching and its lovely hiking trails across the forest.

Later that day, we drove back to Enrico, just to contemplate the beauty of its location, Keurboomstrand.

On Tuesday, we headed to Jeffreys Bay, our last destination before returning to Capetown that Friday. Jeffreys Bay is the ultimate surfers town, ranking as one of the top five surf destinations in the world. It hosts the annual Billabong Pro ASP World Tour in July.

We stayed in Cristal Cove, whose owner knows Michael for ten years now. Our bedroom balcony faced the sunrise. I used to wake up at 6am to head to the beach -like 200 meters away!- to capture the surfers catching some waves.

On Wednesday, we headed to Addo National Park, -I already documented here a few days ago the highlights of the daytrip. Thursday, we just chilled at the beach, did some shopping in the outlets and had dinner at the Kitchen Windows. Nina is also a great place to eat.

That's pretty much it! Hope you enjoyed the four-post series documenting our fabulous trip to South Africa. Thanks so much for your lovely and encouraging comments. Feelin' the love, my friends!

Have a great weekend!

In case you missed the first three:
Capetown (Parts I and II)
Addo Elephant Park
