One Day In Segovia

Hola amig@s! We're back in Bonn after a wonderful two-week vacation in Spain. On this occasion, we could squeeze some quick visits to Madrid and Segovia, as opposed to our previous trips where we would stay all the time in Asturias with my family. Over the next weeks, I'll be sharing bits of our vacation, starting now with the last leg of the trip.

Since we were flying back to Germany on Saturday July 9th at 2pm. we figured we would drive from Asturias to Segovia on Friday morning (it's approximately a four and a half hour-drive), spend the rest of the day there and head the next morning to Barajas airport. 

Segovia. This town reflects more than 2000 years of the country's history. Words fall short to express its beauty and magnificence.

We checked into the Hotel Don Felipe (highly recommended!) at around 4pm and about an hour later we were ready to hit the charmingly narrow cobblestone streets. First stop: The Alcazar. 

Right after The Alcazar we headed downtown to check out the rest of mindblowing monuments like the Cathedral and the Aqueduct. 

Later that night, the Aqueduct hosted an event featuring dancing shows from around the world. Let me tell you, watching those African dancers in front of such a glorious background was quite an experience. 

For dinner that night we went for a charcuterie plate with the best chorizo, lomo, salchichon and cheeses I ever ate. That, along with a chilled bottle of Rueda did the trick. I know, leaving Segovia without trying the famously acclaimed cochinillo asado is sort of embarrasing. It was just too hot to even think about it. Now, we have the perfect excuse to come back. We had a great time at Asador Maribel. They even prepared a plate of pasta for Lucia's dinner. How's that for great service?

Our walk back to the hotel was also pretty scenic. The sunset colors graced the city and we felt we were walking through a fairy tale. Unreal!

All in all, it was a great idea to overnight in Segovia and get to know the town a little. But it definitely felt too short. We will come back as soon as we can.
