How Will You Measure Your Life?

Does it ever happen to you that when you're about to make a big change in your life you try to see and interpret the omens all around? I'm one of those people.

I providentially came across 'How Will You Measure Your Life' and it's being one of the most insightful readings I had in a long time. In this book, a team of Harvard Business School professors invite readers to  apply the most successful business management theories to actually manage our life (at a personal and professional level).

One of the most groundbreaking parts of the book is when they talk about career choices, and how we usually misinterpret the role of money into the whole job equation. The book breaks down two different types of factors when it comes to evaluating the quality of a job: the hygiene factors -so that the job doesn't stink- and the motivation factors -those who make you grow and become more productive and happy. Money, along with other resources such as insurances, vacation time..., are part of the hygiene factors. You would have to find the real motivation somewhere else.

I couldn't help but remembering one of my favorite movies of all time, Jerry Maguire...

Well, I don't plan to release my company's Mission Statement any time soon, but it's always inspirational to evaluate personal choices, prioritize and organize your time and energy accordingly.

Have an awesome week!

  5. Yes! Yes! Yes! I do look for signs when I'm facing a major change or decision. I understand. You are in my thoughts and prayers as this change approaches. Oh, and I love Jerry Maguire!!

  6. Thank you for this! The funny thing is that I studied this in business school! Of course the people in school go into high paying consulting and finance jobs, but it is funny to see how many of my friends quit after a year or two (and now I'm switching too!)
